Kinship Care & Family - 90 minutes
A focused introduction to explore the fundamentals of kinship care, examining how it influences both children and their families. Participants will learn the difference between kinship care, adoption and fostering, focus on key terminology and behaviours - and gain immediate, practical strategies that can be implemented to better support kinship care children.
Kinship Care & Family: Early Years – 90 minutes
This practical and insightful course supports early years practitioners to better understand and respond to the needs of children living in kinship care. Participants will explore what kinship care is, how it differs from other care arrangements, and the impact it has on the wider family network. The session also highlights the effects of trauma, loss, and family change on children’s experiences in early years settings, and provides guidance on using compassionate, inclusive approaches to support both children and their carers.
Kinship in Education - 6 hours
This comprehensive programme builds upon the introductory ‘Kinship Care & Family’ session, incorporating additional elements including SEND awareness, behaviour regulation techniques, guidance on pupil premium plus, and advice for developing inclusive policies. This extended session is recommended for leadership teams, SENCOs, DSLs, and pastoral staff, providing a thorough foundation for supporting children in kinship care.
Understanding Kinship Families - 2 hours
This engaging and thought-provoking course is designed for professionals working with kinship families across a range of services, including education, health, social care, and the voluntary sector. It provides a deeper understanding of kinship care and the complex realities faced by children, carers, and the wider family network.
Participants will explore how trauma, loss, and family change shape the experiences and behaviours of children in kinship care, and how these challenges are often shared across the entire family system. The course encourages professionals to reflect on their role within the wider network of support, recognising where gaps, misunderstandings, or barriers may exist.
Understanding Kinship Families - 6 hours
This in-depth programme builds upon the introductory session, and is designed for professionals working with kinship families across education, health, social care, and the voluntary sector. Delivered as an extended 6-hour session, it provides the time and space to move beyond basic awareness and develop a deeper, more practical understanding of kinship care.
Participants will explore the complexities of kinship care in greater depth, including trauma, loss, family dynamics, and the systemic challenges families face when navigating support services. The programme encourages critical reflection on professional roles within the wider network, helping to strengthen collaboration and consistency across agencies - including the design and implementation of impact frameworks to bring lasting and meaningful change.
